We run Mottram Community Centre, which is an old Grade II listed building, in the village of Mottram-in -Longdendale, in Greater Manchester. We take care of the building and hire out the Centre to the local community and beyond. We take regular or one-off bookings from various organisations, from both the voluntary and private sector.
For nearly two centuries, Mottram Community Centre on Church Brow has been at the heart of Mottram. Built in 1832 as a Sunday School and later serving as Mottram National School until 1955, the building as welcome generations of local people.
Since 1957 it has been run entirely by volunteers as Mottram Community Association - a registered charity - and has hosted everything from toddler groups and craft afternoons to public meetings and private celebrations.
2025 was another pivotal point in Mottram Community Centre's story, as a shortage of trustees, a fall in bookings and urgent maintenance needs put it at risk of closure.
However, our longest-standing trustee, Sarah Davies has been joined by Joanna Jaeger-Booth, a marketing expert and local business owner who lives directly opposite the centre; and Lauren Moore, local charity manager with experience of venue management and fundraising.
We have already begun turning plans into action to breathe new life into the centre - some maintenance works have started, fundraising activities are well underway and more new volunteers are being recruited.
We can't wait to show you our big dreams for this beautiful building - would you like to join our journey?
